A SMALL, BUT MIGHTY,

Team of Dedicated Action-Takers and Changemakers.

What We do

Facilitating projects around the globe that are dedicated to standing beside animals, preserving and restoring natural habitats, and connecting humans to nature.

With over 20 years of experience, the Serengeti Foundation creates and supports initiatives that truly impact the protection, freedom, and sanctuary of animals, habitats, and humans.

Our Beginnings

Inspired by the beauty, fragility, and culture of the Masaai people and the prodigious landscape, the Serengeti Foundation was founded in 1997 by Bert von Roemer and his wife Christine.

    Bert von Roemer

    FOUNDER

Bert’s love for animals – and dream of a future where they are all able to live freely – is what moved him to start the Serengeti Foundation in 1997. In addition to being an avid outdoorsman, father, philanthropist, and coffee trader, Bert and his family have rescued many animals and currently care for four dogs, four buffalo, four mustangs, two cats, and chickens. His ultimate goal is to see the world living together harmoniously with both animals and nature.

    Robert Lawrence

    Infrastructure and Operations

Robert has been with the Serengeti Foundation for 12 years and manages the infrastructure and operations for all our projects. Having grown up on a Texas ranch, Robert has a long family history working with horses and livestock, which he continues to do alongside his rescued dogs. He loves football, exploring rock walls, old homesteads, and investigating the history around him.
